Diane Kruger Seeking Stephenie Meyer’s The Host

Now that Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” franchise is just about done, the author is looking to her next big-screen endeavor — which, if you’re keeping track at home, would be “The Host”, a sci-fi film that will be based on her non-”Twilight” novel of the same name.

“Hanna’s” Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel are already onboard as the film’s young stars, with “Gattaca’s” Andrew Niccol set to direct. Now you can add “Troy’s” Diane Kruger to the film, playing essentially the movie’s villain.

Kruger is in talks to play “The Seeker, who is charged with overseeing the conversion of a young rebel soldier (Ronan) whose consciousness has been infiltrated by Wanderer, a soul that has taken control of bodies and minds but who is daunted by the young human’s spirit — and obsessed with the memories of her boyfriend and her brother — and sets out to track them down. The Seeker pursues her, knowing that the conversion of the rebel will lead to the discovery and eradication of the rebel movement.”

The former “Unknown” star was also up for one of the two female leads in Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion”/”Horizons” (along with Jessica Chastain), but chose “The Host” instead. That film has since filled up its female leads.

Production on the sci-fi film will begin shortly, with a March 29, 2013 release date already penciled in.
