Diane Kruger Seeking Stephenie Meyer’s The Host

Now that Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” franchise is just about done, the author is looking to her next big-screen endeavor — which, if you’re keeping track at home, would be “The Host”, a sci-fi film that will be based on her non-”Twilight” novel of the same name.

“Hanna’s” Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel are already onboard as the film’s young stars, with “Gattaca’s” Andrew Niccol set to direct. Now you can add “Troy’s” Diane Kruger to the film, playing essentially the movie’s villain.

Kruger is in talks to play “The Seeker, who is charged with overseeing the conversion of a young rebel soldier (Ronan) whose consciousness has been infiltrated by Wanderer, a soul that has taken control of bodies and minds but who is daunted by the young human’s spirit — and obsessed with the memories of her boyfriend and her brother — and sets out to track them down. The Seeker pursues her, knowing that the conversion of the rebel will lead to the discovery and eradication of the rebel movement.”

The former “Unknown” star was also up for one of the two female leads in Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion”/”Horizons” (along with Jessica Chastain), but chose “The Host” instead. That film has since filled up its female leads.

Production on the sci-fi film will begin shortly, with a March 29, 2013 release date already penciled in.

Summit deal drives Lionsgate stock surge

Companies release further merger details

Lionsgate shares hit a 52-week high in early trade, opening up more than 5% at $9.04 from their close of $8.60 on Friday after the company announced the acquisition of Summit Entertainment. Lionsgate also said in SEC filings that Summit's owners could pocket up to $7.5 million above and beyond the indie studio's purchase price if the last two "Twilight" movies "exceed prescribed thresholds."
The company unveiled some details, including the bonus for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2," of the $412.5 million merger agreement in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Tuesday even as Wall Streeters after a long holiday weekend began to weigh in on the deal, announced Friday. The reaction remains upbeat although investors are still looking for details on Summit financials that Lionsgate said in its filing it might issue later on.
